DID YOU KNOW…?

Many of the hotels in Oia do not have sunset views. Thank goodness you found this blog. Keep reading for the best places to stay in Santorini Greece with the iconic caldera AND sunset views!

Let’s talk about:

  1. Fira

  2. Imerovigili

  3. Oia

The iconic caldera view from my hotel room in Fira.

Fira:

Fira is Santorini’s city center, with many shops and restaurants. The hotel I stayed at for this trip is Apeiron Blue. Apeiron Blue is located south of Fira and is a 6-minute drive into city center. It was important to me to have a jacuzzi overlooking the Aegean Sea, with a sunset view. The setting of the hotel was absolutely beautiful and private, which is hard to find in areas like Fira. I was able to relax in my jacuzzi and watch the magical sunset, in privacy. There is a restaurant onsite, two pools and sunbeds that overlook the caldera. Breakfast is served every morning to your room or on the outdoor terrace that overlooks the caldera. I loved my stay with Apeiron Blue.

These could be the stairs leading down to your hotel in Santorini!

Imerovigili:

Imerovigili is located in between Fira and Oia. Imerovigili has some of the most amazing views of the caldera and sunset views! Take a look at my flying dress pictures that are sprinkled throughout my blog, these were taken in Imerovigili. I PROMISE those are real backgrounds! This area is not as lively as other areas of the island. However, if you’re priority is luxury and privacy, then this might be the area for you!

Some of the most luxurious hotels are located in this area. You won’t have to go far for a nice restaurant experience and fancy cocktail, if you don’t want to! Here is a list of hotels I would recommend for this area. Even though I have not had a chance to stay at these hotels, they’re all on my list for future trips. All of these hotels have room options with private plunge pools or jacuzzis, caldera views, AND sunset views.

Oia:

Remember the image you envisioned at the beginning of this blog? That is Oia! The marble streets and iconic white-washed buildings with blue-domed churches, perched on the cliff of the caldera is Oia. Even if you choose to stay in another part of the island, you must visit Oia. The views are iconic! Oia is also where everyone on the island goes to watch the sunset, so be prepared to navigate through tons of tourists.

Now, let’s talk about the sunset in Oia. Yes, as I mentioned everyone goes to Oia to watch the sunset. However, everyone goes to the Castle of Oia which faces North towards the sunset. Keep in mind when booking a hotel in Oia, many of the luxury hotels in Oia face South due to the shape of the island. While they do have jaw-dropping caldera views, you will not have a view of the sunset from your hotel. If you are searching for a hotel in Oia, with a caldera and sunset view, I would recommend looking at hotels North of the Old Oia Castle.

Here is a list of hotels I would recommend for this area. Even though I have not had a chance to stay at these hotels, they’re are all on my list for future trips. All of these hotels have room options with private plunge pools or jacuzzis, caldera views, AND sunset views.

Booking Tips:

Book your accommodations in Santorini many months in advance in order to get the type of room and the location you want. By booking early, you also get to take advantage of really good room rates.

I would also recommend scheduling in advance a transfer from the airport or ferry port to your hotel as the island does not have a ride share service. Most hotels will offer this as an additional service.

Traveling is much more than seeing a beautiful destination.

It’s the the experience of the journey attached to the beautiful destination.
